Driven by a purpose to train the healthcare workforce in providing trauma informed care, post sexual assault care, SDOH and interpersonal violence screening, and providing quality patient care for survivors of gender based violence that prevents re-victimzation and reduces secondary trauma.

VESSA Expansion Amendment

Provided assistance in the language surrounding the 2021 amendment to the IL Victims Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA) to be more inclusive of non-marital family relationships and same-sex survivors as well as expanding the definition of violent crimes covered to include victims of physical assault and homicide.

Provided expert testimony to the Illinois House and Senate committees on the importance of this amendment to create a Trauma-Informed societal response to ALL victims of violent crimes, who are often young and from lower socioeconomic backgrounds with less workplace protections, and their family members.

Hard Work, Real Impact.

Training the next generation of healthcare professionals as patient advocates. Organized and led the AMWA-PATH trip to DC to advocate for the Trafficking Survivor Relief Act of 2025. Passed December 2025.

Human Trafficking Education & Resource Packet for Healthcare

As co-chair of the Healthcare Subcommittee of the Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force, I put together a packet of resources that was distributed to area hospitals to aid in the trauma-informed care of patients impacted by human trafficking.

Exterior Installation for Chicago Victims of Homicide

Provided the installation support and design for the outdoor row of photos to honor the survivors who have lost their family members to homicide 2020-2025. In 2024 honored victims of domestic violence and invited representatives from the local domestic violence agencies to table and discuss Karina’s Law which was passed in early 2025.
